Ghazālī and his Early Biographers

This article offers an outline of what we know of Abu Hamid al-Ghazalis life from the earliest sources, beginning with key autobiographical passages of Ghazalis al-Munqidh and surveying the earliest available biographical sources. Works drawn on include, most prominently, those by 'Abd al-Ghafir al-Farisi and Qadi Abu Bakr b. al-'Arabi.
